Warning – This is for Beginners
Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid is most times used in the beginning stages of healing autism if it’s needed. Diet changes of being at least gluten-free and dairy-free is best to determine the need. And please work with a knowledgeable functional medicine practitioner on this.
Indications Of Need
Used when someone has, excess ammonia in the blood. This is why you work with a healthcare team. This is very easily diagnosed with a blood test.
- Nitrogen excess
- Lack of energy
- Exposure to arsenic, mercury, lead or antimony
- Stool pH too high
- Mitochondrial disorder
- Oxidant stress
What Is Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid?
Alpha-ketoglutaric acid is a very important organic acid needed for nitrogen balance throughout the body, but especially in the brain and the Central Nervous System (CNS).
It’s crucial to have nitrogen balance in both the brain and the central nervous system. The body goes about balancing nitrogen very differently throughout the body. Alpha-ketoglutaric acid is important for the proper metabolism of all essential amino acids, as well as the transfer of cellular energy in the citric acid cycle, also known as the Krebs cycle.
Here’s a figure of the Krebs cycle on the left, and you can see how alpha-ketoglutaric acid gets converted to glutamate, and then eventually to glutamine.
More and more studies have indicated that alpha-ketoglutaric acid could improve anti-oxidative function against oxidative imbalance in cells, which further contributed to the prevention and treatment of various diseases induced by oxidative stress.
Just an example as to how Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid is used.
- In the animal industry, it is used effectively to improve growth performance, nitrogen utilization, immunity, bone development, intestinal mucosal injury, and the oxidative system. So that’s how in the animal industry, it can improve things.
- In humans, currently, it’s extensively used in trauma, aging diseases, post-operative recovery, and other nutritional diseases.
You can see that alpha-ketoglutaric acid has a very wide effect. So it’s very general and that’s why typically, it’s used at the beginning of healing autism if it’s needed because it has a very broad effect, it’s not very specific.
